Who We Are and Our Philosophy

We are HOME to a number of children, most of whom have physical and mental disabilities and some orphans. Most of the children have been disabled from birth and were abandoned by their parents who did not have the means to look after them. Eruobodo House has brought them together and created a home where they can live as a family, maximize their potential and look forward with hope to the future.

Eruobodo House is currently located in Ijebu-Ode in a large bungalow provided as a free-lease. In order to be more self-sufficient, fruit and vegetables are grown on the property. Money is raised through selling eggs and fish (during cat-fish season) and goats are run on the property. We also have a small stall where baskets, necklaces and cards made by the children as well as second hand goods are sold.

We believe it is important to focus on developing each of our children's ability to care for themselves. We provide the schooling and training that will allow our children to become economically independent wherever possible.

Day to day activities in the Home are run by the Matron and her assistants including nannies, an arts and crafts teacher, gardener and night security

We have tried to support the development of our children by upgrading our facilities: we have a playground and now include massage and sensory therapy as part of the rehabilitation programs.

Our credentials

The Eruobodo House Society was founded in 1997 by a group of Nigerian and expatriate women living in Nigeria with a long history of leading charitable initiatives in Nigeria. The board of trustees includes Mrs. Betti Okubojejo, Ms. Comfort Bruce and Mrs. Gbemi Tejuoso with Chief Mrs. Aino Oni-Okpaku as chairperson. Currently the home is assisted by Heal the World Mission, Ebunoluwa Foundation and Liliane Fond. We have also received special donations from Exxon Mobil and the British Women's Group. Thank you.
